President Biden visited Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to address the aftermath of the tanker truck explosion on I-95, a crucial highway where over 150,000 vehicles, including 14,000 trucks, travel daily.
Expressing solidarity with the people of Philadelphia, he pledged the federal government's full support and a swift rebuilding process. President Biden highlighted the collaborative efforts between federal, state, and local officials, along with the first responders and workers on site.
He emphasized the significance of the project and the urgent need to restore I-95. The federal government has already provided emergency funds and assured further funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
Union crews are working tirelessly to clear debris and initiate emergency repairs for the safe reopening of the roadway. Former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is leading the infrastructure effort, implementing innovative designs and using locally manufactured materials.
President Biden acknowledged the critical importance of I-95 to the region's economy and committed to reimbursing the majority of the project's cost. He concluded by affirming his determination to see the project through to completion and thanked Governor Josh Shapiro for his dedicated work.
